Hey Sports Tech Fans,
Apologies for no newsletter on Friday last week but I will be putting it out on Mondays for the rest of August.
A lot has happened in the last 10 days since the last newsletter.
Personally, it’s been an amazing experience putting together a new live show format on Twitch for the Champions League.
As you probably guessed by now, I love all things live streaming and fan engagement. So putting together a show with a professional sports presenter and host has been amazing. I have been producing the show as well as creating the fan engagement software.
I will share our sizzle reel as soon as it’s ready as I would love to share it with you and get your feedback.
Triller, the US based direct competitor with TikTok are moving into the sports broadcasting space with a boxing bout between Tyson and Jones Jr.
I will certainly download the app and check out what they are doing, because Triller is in an interesting place to rapidly grow given the Trump administrations position on TikTok in the US and the move into live sports is a huge move, especially given the younger demographic that use the app.
TikTok have been given until September 15th to agree a sale or divest from its US position, while the Triller bout, dubbed “Frontline Battle” was due to air on September 12th, but this has been delayed until November 28th, Thanksgiving weekend.
The fight is rumoured to be $49.99 and will be broadcast on Triller and other PPV platforms.
Will Triller users pay that much? Are they simply using it to move beyond user generated content and into the sports space?
They will also broadcast a 10 part documentary in the build up to the fight to generate hype for the fight.
Given the age of the fighters, it will likely be a glorified sparring match, but given the competitive nature of both fighters it could become a slug fest.
Jake Paul, the controversial Youtube star is also on the card, which is sure to draw the younger crowds. It could be a perfect blend of old legends and new age influencers to draw crowds both young and old.
Have a great sporting week,
Will
