Hey Sports Tech Fans,
Last week I decided to test out another approach to writing this newsletter… by not writing anything! The metrics were still about the same but it had the lowest click-through rate of the month, so maybe my ramblings do encourage readers to actually click on a story! :)
Ryan from Comcast SportsTech reached out as part of my outreach to readers of the newsletter to share news and insights from the community, well they have announced the first cohort of Comcast SportsTech!
You can see the launch video below as well as an article on the companies under the Startup category.
This week it seems like Crypto and NFT’s were everywhere!
NFT’s are non-fungible tokens which is a fancy way of saying it’s a digital collectible that’s verifiable via Blockchain technology.
There is a section below that goes into detail on some of the main stories in this area including:
Sorare raised $50 million from people like Antoine Griezmann, Gary Vaynerchuk among others. They are focused on soccer and have sold a Ronaldo NFT for $100,000+ and an Mbappe NFT for $65,000
NBA Topshots, which sell NBA highlights as NFT’s which is a very interesting proposition and is a roaring success. I would expect other leagues to follow suit and maybe teams with their back catalog of content and highlights.
Justin Kan, founder of Twitch interviewed Mark Cuban on his new podcast The Quest and they spoke about NFT’s and Cuban shared his thoughts on if it was 1995 again before he started broadast.com and this opportunity was there he would go after it. Mark Cuban believes it will disrupt Music, Movies, Art as well as sports, in essence, anything with a fan base!
You might have seen a few changes to the styling of the newsletter since the Twitter acquisition and hopefully, there will be more tweaks and features added over time!
Have a great sporting weekend,
