As predicted the amount bet on the SuperBowl increased dramatically as New Jersey almost doubled its take from last year from $54.3 million to $117.4 million, and is on track to overtake Nevada with Las Vegas experiencing a decrease from $154.7 million last year to $136.1 million this year.
More on this below from Emily of
Viewers on traditional TV were down for the SuperBowl this year while streaming was up 65% year over year but the drop in TV viewing wasn’t made up for in streaming.
The game was hyped as the GOAT versus the next GOAT but the numbers didn’t play out that way and the game certainly didn’t as the Buccaneers ran out comfortable winners with some amazing defence and Brady and Gronk rolling back the years to combine for two touchdowns.
The NFL season might be over but the Fan Controlled Football season kicks off tomorrow.
There have been multiple attempts at a spring football league but this one changes all the rules. I will certainly try and tune in as it is such a shift from traditional team sports with the fans having more involvement. Will it lead to fans trolling or will it create a perfect mix of fan engagement and on field action.
Thanks to one of our readers Rich for the F1 omnibus of news covering the sport over the past week.
F1’s viewing figures were up on all social platforms last year, with the sport doing deals with YouTube for live races which were a huge success.
Their eSports division came to the fore during lockdown 1.0 and goes from strength to strength.
There is also talk of a new Sprint Race format on Saturdays which they hope to trial in the upcoming season as a way to attract new viewers by offering a shorter race format to drive engagement from younger audiences.
Some great stories this week so be sure to check them out below.
Have a great sporting weekend,
