Hey Sports Tech Fans,
I will be hosting my second problem solving workshop for those in sports next Tuesday the 21st! Tickets are very limited https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/lightning-decision-jam-for-sports-clubs-leagues-media-startups-etc-tickets-101646198516.
So if your sport isn’t running an esports tournament of some sort right now, then you are miles behind the curve!
So far it seems to be leagues and organisations running things, but I would have expected a lot more teams to be running their own as well. Perhaps we will see that happen over the coming months.
A very interesting deal between the NBA and Microsoft which has the potential to really shake up the broadcasting landscape as Microsoft look to get in on the action of live sports.
It will essential see a “Twitchificaiton"of the NBA on Microsoft’s Azure platform. It will incorporate live stats, personalisation, AI, archive footage, record announcements on the fly thanks to the AI as well as fan engagement.
The deal will also include the NBA G League which has called Twitch its digital home, so Twitch will be losing that.
There is no mention yet of Mixer.com (Microsoft’s Twitch competitor) but I would expect them to carry games on that as well for extra reach and to legitamise the platform with sports fans.
Loads of other stories below.
Have a great sporting weekend,
